Fire Horse Energy: Celebrating Chinese New Year
oin the Chinese New Year 2026 festival in Mexico City this Feb 14th
Forget the basic heart-shaped balloons. This February 14th, Mexico City is trading Cupid for a Dragon. The CENART (Centro Nacional de las Artes) is throwing its legendary Chinese New Year Festival, and for 2026, we’re welcoming the Year of the Fire Horse.
Expect a massive takeover of the green areas with everything from high-speed martial arts to the most aesthetic Hanfu catwalks you’ve ever seen. Whether you’re a culture nerd or just here for the dumplings, this is the vibe for the weekend.

What’s the Move? (The Program)
CENART doesn’t do things halfway. The 2026 edition is packed with activities that are actually worth the trip to Coyoacán:
The Icons: Traditional Dragon and Lion dances. If you don’t get a video of the dragon weaving through the crowd, did you even go?
Action: Live martial arts and Kung Fu demonstrations that look like they’re straight out of a movie.
Style: A Hanfu Catwalk featuring traditional Chinese attire. It’s basically a high-fashion history lesson.
Cravings: A massive gastronomic fair. Think authentic dumplings, spring rolls, and teas that’ll make you forget about Starbucks for a day.
Chill Vibe: Shadow theater, workshops, and Chinese cinema screenings for when you need a break from the sun.
Pro Tip: Since it’s Valentine’s Day AND Saturday, the place will be packed. Get there by 10:30 AM to snag a good spot on the grass. Bring a blanket and some sunscreen!
Survival Spanish: The Festival Edition
Wanna navigate the crowds like a pro? Use these:
“¿Dónde está el área de comida?” – Where is the food court? (Priority #1).
“¿A qué hora empieza la danza del dragón?” – What time does the dragon dance start?
“Está hasta el full” – It’s super crowded (very common in CDMX festivals).
“Entrada libre” – Free entry.
The “So What?”
The Chinese New Year at CENART has become a CDMX staple because it’s one of the few places where you get top-tier international culture for exactly zero pesos. It’s vibrant, it’s loud, and it’s the best way to kick off the Year of the Fire Horse with your crew or your date.
Are you going for the food or the martial arts? Let’s settle this in the comments!
